Some times a wire is loose or connection is not tight. No other engine lights have come on. Posted on Jan 16, 2010 What do you mean won't stay charged? You won't see surface charge on a battery that is being actively used like that. Technician ran the car for a few hours every day for a week and took it for test drives but light never came on. The meter would jump from undercharging to overcharging and sometimes rest in the 'ok' area sorry, I don't know the numbers. This is the indicator thing I mentioned.
Battery light on but very dim stays on while running while key is in off position, does not flicker get brighter get dimmer just stays very dim no matter if the car is running or turned off, replaced alternator last year and replace battery 3 days ago, all fuses are good all connections good car starts and drives without stalling but light stays on Unplug the connector on the back of the generator. If the voltage goes up like you have stated, that would indicate that the alternator is charging the battery. Battery light seems to only come on now 1 Every time I start up and begin driving and I think the car shifts to higher gears; 2 whenever I go up hills - it has also come on a couple of times when going down a hill just like before, when the alternator was replaced ; 3 when I accelerate beyond 55 mpg. The battery light has been coming on for a few months, it will come on, and go off. Finally would not start up - completely dead. Change the , its worth the piece of mind.
Same thing, however this time after a few minutes the alt. Hi everyone, any chance you can give me some help and or guidance on my latest situation. Report posts and comments that fall outside the guidelines. The battery is just about one year old. Also-just because the Alt was replaced, doesn't mean the problem was solved. Check charging volts, it should at 14 volts or very close to that number. A mechanic had used a Stanley knife to cut off the insulator from the wire to allow him to use a multimeter on it it was probably the mechanic who replaced the alterantor and battery 12 months ago.
I checked all wires and they are all fine. I don't really feel like this car would have a bad ground or like a hot is grounding out. The cause of the battery light could be a loose or corroded battery cable or other wire connecting components of the charging system, or it might be a problem with the alternator or voltage regulator. If the light goes off, the voltage regulator is not turning off. The battery light didn't come on for them.
Posted on Jan 16, 2010 Disconnect the negative battery cable and put a test light between the cable end and the neg post. My battery light comes on at 35 mph. Without B+ voltage at those wire's it won't work. I checked the battery with a fluke volt meter. If its like 5 volts or more then its like a motor something that needs a lot of juice to opperate starting motor window motor seat motor check the connectors to them first its the easyest thing to look at also check the fuse box I have mis labeled fuses that should be 10amp but dont burn out and the wires start to melt.
The light didn't come back on like it usually does. However, you will run into problems if the car is charging the battery poorly or not at all, obviously over time. I retightend my battery cables which really wasen't loose to begin with. Car will drive but now is dying out or will not start. Auto parts stores can check your alternator for free, or if you have a volt meter, you can check it yourself. It comes on about 30 seconds after I start my car. Then do the same to the other ends of the cables. But the battery light still comes on intermittently while I'm driving. Also-just because the Alt was replaced, doesn't mean the problem was solved. Meter on same scale check the battery voltage its a 12 volt battery so it should 12 volts but you say its new.
