I think this was a slap in the face to owners like me. It is a safety hazard because it works sometimes but is way off under the real speed. The instrument cluster had to be sent off to be remanufactured. I'm not liking what I'm hearing about this. Had it repaired by gm but it keeps messing up and causing vibrations, clunking and altering the steering. After contacting gm, they told me to take it to an authorized shop for a diagnosis, which I did and they confirmed it was the issue that gm issued the contract adjustment for, but since it has now expired, there is nothing they could do for me. The dealer advised there was not a recall for the failure and any repairs would be at the contact's expense. The speedometer was stuck at 110 mph. The vehicle was not repaired.

Mechanic said front brakes are fine yet. I would check for recalls first. At this time the software had not been approved by the epa. If the transfer case switches to neutral while the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle would lose drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Clusters are sent in for exchange only. The contact stated that the speedometer on his vehicle was faulty. And by the time I called the dealer and was told that they are very strict about that 70k limit, I was at like 70050 or something like that. Driving through Utah at posted speed limit of 75 with cruise control on, the speedometer suddenly started to indicate a deceleration from cruises speed to 30 mph. The owner's manual for the affected vehicles may be missing instructions on how to use the tether anchorage and child restraint anchorage systems. Remove the two instrument cluster bezel screws.
This has happened at least five times. I found another individual had the same problem with their truck. He did an outstanding job, and cleaned up the unit. Note: The vehicles in this recall need this additional remedy despite being covered by recall 16V069 for brake pedal loosening. The failure occurred on several occasions.
It was the first year for the new style gauge panel with the tach but the last year for that style wiring and speed-o-meter control box. Returned to dealer and was informed that the valve body needed to be replaced. Only the power train is still under the 7yr 70k warranty. The recall began December 2, 2015. It said that I was doing over 100 when I was probably only going about 60. Hopefully you have a test meter to check continuity of fuse and bulbs.
