There is no leaks we have no oil in our driveway and the car does not smoke. They took the engine out and replaced the timing chain. The dealership said they could not find anything wrong. Only less than 6 months ago and Barely 50k miles. I suppose in a few years they will introduce overhead cam engines with belts that need to be replaced or the engines will self-destruct. Almost 6 years old but only 85,000 and change in km.
I m not exactly sure where the high¸ oil consumption was taking place but it seemed to disappear after they repaired the timing chain and bent valves all warranty. Makes rattling noise when it starts. Book time for pulling and replacing a typical engine without swapping any parts seems to be in the 20 hour range. The mechanic told me I needed to change oil more often and drive train needs replacing 23000 km Same as before. He said it should be changed more frequently. As far as he was concerned, that is a requirement for these new engines. I've replaced timing cover gaskets on both my '97 Taurus and '02 Impala and neither engine had to be pulled.
Complained several times prior but dealer could not duplicate problem. Svc tech drove it home and experienced prob. I have missed work and am having such troubles from a huge investment. They took the engine out and replaced the timing chain. After 1 small trip to the store the check engine light came on. Ck engine light still on and still ran 10 seconds after shut off.
Took to dealer 3X ovr period of 3 mths before confirmed there was a problem. I can't put gasoline in at any level. The consumer stated the vehicle failed without warning. The car had to be towed to the dealer. Makes rattling noise when it starts. Replaced fuel rail pressure sensor. So couple days later I started it up.
. As a retired mechanic I would fix myself if I was physically able now and had the right diagnostic equipment. The cam chain elongation figure that I recall seeing was very small, about 2 mm. Same trouble code as before. The chain also wore out the chain guides and metal stud holding a section of the guide. Dealership knew of existing problem but said there is no fix yet.
The Nozzle keeps Shutting off. I'm not feeling too confident they know how to fix it or if they can. The design is great but the engine and system are of very poor quality. Also the temp gauge was going up and down. Did nothing, even though computer stored trouble code. New pistons and piston rings were installed to include the replacement of the timing chain. Catalytic converter causing check engine light.
Returned after 12 days replacing intake cam solenoid. Dash board and stereo light would flicker and dim. This seems to have fixed the problem, will monitor for oil leaks. A week ago my engine light came on and the engine died. Towed to dealer who reset engine light reported engine control system error but could not replicate issue. As a retired mechanic I would fix myself if I was physically able now and had the right diagnostic equipment. Really good for the bearings! The contact stated that the failure occurred on more than one occasion.
Service Advisor said timing belt was going out and water pump needed replacing. I believe that the recall needs to be expanded to cover more vehicles because there are more vehicles that are affected by this issue. Replaced high pressure fuel pump. I also wait for the engine oil life light to come on. Not as much power on acceleration. The belts in your Terrain connect your engine to many of the components you use every day such as your air conditioner, battery via the alternator , power steering and cooling system.
