There are three types of velocity curves and a mode with a fixed maximum value. Need a single instrument to take to a gig? It is unlikely that such a device is supposed to work with a different articulation, however, the mechanics allows you to extract sounds with different values of velocities. It gives you access to a hefty 500 sounds in a beautifully designed and modern software. The layout has changed slightly, though, in that the touchstrips are now located above the left-hand end of the keyboard rather than next to it. Design Now onto the design. You may find that reverse engineering some of these presets could be a master class in sound design. When you select MiniLab in the app settings, the virtual panel corresponding to the hardware controllers becomes available.
Additionally, the pads integrate tightly with the Analog Lab software. But if you would like to have a control to, say, adjust filter key-follow, unless the preset designer added that as a macro, which is unlikely in this case, you are out of luck. All of these five tribute packs use multiple underlying instruments, although often just two or three are used in all the presets. But I suspect most users will be primarily interested in the ability to replicate authentic characteristics of innumerable hit recordings of yore. This affordable controller is very sturdy, comes with lots of control features and made for portability. The biggest attraction here is the vast number of sounds: a whopping total of 6553 presets are included, those presets include the totality of all the presets in all the instruments in the V Collection 6 bundle — in other words, all the presets in all the Arturia individual virtual instruments.
This is more suitable for someone that is interested in using the Keylab as a piece of studio equipment for more serious piano playing. You won't get a better deal on this amazing software. The great thing about this keyboard is that it come in different sizes ranging from 25, 49, 61, and 88 keys. I think that they layout of the Akai is useful for drum sequencing because they Pads are in a 2 row by 4 column configuration. However, one feature I thought needed reworked was the touch control mod wheels.
When I began using Ableton, I would get frustrated with trying to modulate the different parameters of a sound because I had no idea what I was doing but I had the idea in my head. As before, they are multifunctional and responsible for various functions in the different modes. Ableton Live 9 Lite is also included in the box, giving you a taste as to what Ableton Live can really do. Only the Vangelis pack offers multi presets. At this cost, you can order it on Amazon. If you are into the study of sound design, having the full instrument provides an opportunity to see how these sounds are programmed. Overall the Keylab Essential is a pretty good controller keyboard that favours solid build quality and a decent set of core features over unnecessary bells and whistles.
Finally we have the only non-synth instrument among the new members of the family. Analog Lab puts 17 software recreations of some amazing classic synthesizers into a single software plug-in. All the others and the majority of the Vangelis pack are single-instrument presets. While many portable controllers offer eight rotary controls, Arturia ups that count to 16 and has made two of them clickable, which is nice for toggling synth parameters. And this programming is entirely under your control. The connectors are now located on the back of the device, which is an absolute plus. In addition to the Analog Lab integration, the pads also work well with the included lite version of Ableton Live, allowing you to launch clips and scenes.
The example of Grand piano sounding is available at the official product page. The eight drum pads have a great feel and serve a few purposes beyond simple velocity control of drums and percussion. This makes the unit almost 2cm narrower, but a 29mm increase in depth counteracts that shrinkage by increasing the footprint from 373x191mm to 355x220. I was pleased to see there was a sustain port in the rear of the keyboard, although I would have loved to have seen an expression port as well. Key features of the controller are a compact size and large number of controllers, including touch strip Pitch and Modulation instead of traditional wheels. Examples of Analog Lab sound can be heard on the official website of the manufacturer. However, many of those sounds are so recognizable and iconic that only a tribute band could get away with using them without being suspected of shameless copying.
We're excited to announce that we now offer Arturia Analog Lab Lite with every Morph purchase. Hopefully this is just a temporary situation. At the end of last year, the popular MiniLab model was improved. Since their start in 1999, Arturia has grown and developed their software synths to emulate sounds from popular synthesizers and keyboards like the Roland Jupiter — 8, Sequential Prophet — 5, and many more. Where else could you get such a complete collection of diverse keyboard instruments at such a modest price? Without being able to see the programming of the underlying instrument, some of the operational characteristics of a preset can be obscure.
By default, the controllers are responsible for the Pitch and Modulation function, but can be reassigned to any other parameter. The modelled acoustic piano module, Piano V, has also been upgraded to Piano V2, and primarily boasts three new piano models. So, for what are you waiting, Arturia? The mini keyboard feels great, it is covered in knobs, and the pads do more than just trigger drums in a colorful fashion. It also allows you to import, export and generally organise your presets without loading them into the Keylab. Control buttons and Pitch Modulation strips have moved up to the general group of controllers above the keys. Or play it on its own, creating unique textures and sound designs.
