He was a sparkling, laughing, giggling, storytelling, fabulous musician. He knows how to create moments, memorable ones. And we put Asaf in there. A trained animator, Avidan worked as a professional animator for years before being prompted to turn to his hobby for his livelihood. And gave me a lot in the next minutes there, that I would like to last forever.
This is the result - Avidan's music, with no added sugar or preservatives. He tells us that he became a musician quite late, around 25. The move was not a total shock to the band as Asaf Avidan had played extensively as a solo artist throughout his time with the band. During the last half a year, Asaf Avidan has toured endlessly armed only with his guitar, harmonica and vocals. No more tears, my heart is dry I don't laugh and I don't cry I don't think about you all the time But when I do, I wonder why you had to go out of my door and leave just like you did before I know I said that I was sure but rich man can't imagine poor One day baby, we'll be old Oh baby, we'll be old And think about the stories that we could have told So, one day baby, we'll be old Oh baby, we'll be old And think of all the stories that we could have told Little me and little you kept doing all the things they do they never really think it throught like I never think you're true Here I go again The blame, the guilt, the pain the hurt, the shame The founding fathers of our plane that's stuck in heavy clouds of rain One day baby, we'll be old Oh baby, we'll be old And think about the stories that we could have told One day baby, we'll be old Oh baby, we'll be old And think of all the stories that we could have told I'll say it, one day baby, we'll be old Oh baby, we'll be old And think of all the stories that we could have told I'll say it, one day baby, we'll be old Oh baby, we'll be old, oh baby we'll be old, sure baby we'll be old, oh baby, we'll be old sure baby, we'll be old oh baby, we'll be old baby, we'll be old baby, little beauty baby really little baby, sure baby beauty little baby, baby, baby One day baby, we'll be old Oh baby, we'll be old think of all the stories that we could have told.
The audience got to experience Asaf's songwriting and performing skills almost face to face. He is a funny and entertaining buddy, a generous and fascinating musician, reinventing his songs and rearranging them along the way. In 2011 Avidan decided to break away from The Mojos and pursue an entirely solo career. The only thing is it was too short, I think not even an 1h. Only heartbreak could give Asaf Avidan the creative jolt he needed to bring his talent into being and watch it shine. From there I listened to his previous albums too.
If you can see only one artiste in the year, choose him,he will fill your mind, for a long long time and give you a permanent smile. Even alone, he manages to fill the Arles Arena with Avidan vibes. The setting was great and he was just terrific. And hapoy to see him. A must listen to, and a must see.
And then we pressed record. Why not let you experience Avidan and his music, alone, in a small room - literally face to face? I love you, Asaf, like blood that is fresh. The first time I went to see him I drove all the way from Marseille to Milan at the Alcazar, as the Marseille concert was booked out and I was determined to go and listen to him live. Prior to releasing his debut solo album, Avidan toured Israel where he performed intimate acoustic shows. Yesterday it was different; Asaf was alone on stage in Arles. The songs also take on a different character, going from a stark, laid-bare fragility brought by the acoustic guitar accompaniment to a fuller, richer sound with the grand piano, although Asaf is always uncompromisingly soulful and heartfelt. And then there is his talent as a musician.
The response of the crowd to these intimate, acoustic shows were tremendous. Just him and his songs - in a box. While bittersweet for Avidan, fans of the talented musician have his ex-girlfriend to thank for the extensive music he has brought into the world. I love this record because it reminds me of the night this past April when I attended a live performance in Los Angeles, California of Asaf. I will never forget the performance! I discovered him and instantly fell in love with his musicality and his poetry when listening to the album Different Pulses. I went to Arles yesterday to see Asaf for the second time, and it was fab. Then it occured to us - If it's intimate they want - why not go all the way? For Asaf Avidan music was always secondary to his career.
I think to myself, truly, here is an artist who is capable of reaching everybody in the room, and not only reaching them, but moving them deeply with his tales of anguish, wonder, love, betrayal and life. A very gifted artist, multi-talented, an orchestra- man. So thats what we did - We rented a small space in south Tel Aviv. The album was a top 30 hit in Belgium, France and Italy. In my opinion there are not many left, but he is. With no rehearsals, and no preperations.
Never mind, possibly he wanted to leave for his next concert. A master of the guiter, that uses all kinds of instruments to enrich his music and performance. I know that you're always on the run, babe I know that you ain't just fun, that's for sure babe. . He shares stories with us and tells us about about the genesis of some of his songs. A unique voice with amazing depth and emotion.
Asaf Avidan has toured and collaborated with multiple artists including Robert Plant, Lou Reid and Bob Dylan. .
