And theculture comes off well. Tragically, it is additionally a motion picture loaded with numerous breaks, and some of the time the amusingness is at a level that will make them scratch your head and pondering exactly what should be interesting about it. For this to be the first film i register and leave a comment for then it must be good. Saw this on a plane flight from Thailand to Japan, and it seemed as ifI was the only one laughing. Best comedy i think i have seen this year. I have fallen asleep every time I watch Napoleon Dynamite. I tend to just roll myeyes at many of the crude gags I see in movies nowadays, but I evenenjoyed the bathroom humor in this movie.
This is often an issuewith critics trying to take storytelling in comedies too seriously. But there is an earnestness and a sweetgentility in the film that will win you over. The movie, apparently based on a real monk, though the endof the credits state that the film is totally fictitious tells thestory of Ignacio Nacho for short , an orphaned boy who becomes a monkat an orphanage. Its not gag, punchline funnyand was never intended to be. After the orphans nacho's arestolen by a homeless man and the head priest humiliates Nacho for hispitiful meal preparation skills, Nacho--who's greatest love in life ismasked luchador wrestlingdecides to enter a tag team match, with thethief as his partner. It is made for teens and adults, but there isnothing objectionable enough as to keep kids out.
This is not so for Nacho Libre. It doesn't say much for his spirituality, but itmade for a lot of laughs. He doesn't give up his religious fervor when the chips are down, when his atheist friend tells him to give into science and logic, andhe doesn't give up on God because men of cloth treat him badly. He's tired of serving the same bland food to the youngboys in his charge. Hestays true to his faith and not his religion. I shall shyaway from spoilers. At the point when alternate priests gripe about the substandard nature of Nacho's nourishment, he creates an arrangement to profit with the goal that he can manage the cost of better stuff for the vagrants, and to get in the great graces of the exquisite Sister Encarnacion.
Mostly, I believe this is true because Nacho does not involve a whole lot of surprise humor. But that's no big criticism. At worst this movie has a few slow spots, but it is pepperedwith some great 'laugh till there is dribble running out the side ofyour mouth' slapstick. I recommend Nacho to everyone who loved Dynamite. Slapstick humor always walks a tightrope between bad taste and belly laughs. It's as if someone took the best parts of Taylor Negron and Felix Montano and created the ultimate comedic sidekick.
The other people were very funny too, especially cave men midgets The story is funny as itself too. No, not really, I have no kids and enjoyed it, but that doesn't mean that kids that see it won't be cracking up either. The understated dryness of visual gagsand 'dead pan' delivery of dialog makes this movie totally ridiculousand a crack up! And, she wasn't just beautiful, but asweet lady, too. Movies that speak to the few and turn off the rest. I wasimpressed how much effort was made to make this movie look nice inaddition to getting laughs. I, on the other hand, love this type of humor.
There is a generalirrepressible levity to the proceedings that is infectious. There are some laughs throughout, but the writing isn't particularly great. This is not a religious picture. Some of the funniest gags were givenaway in the trailer, but there are many other funny gags that weren't. So if you're expecting the same loud, obnoxiousgags you see in most comedies nowadays, you'll probably bedisappointed. Knowing what to expect allowsthe audience to settle into Hess skewed comedy. I make no apologies for liking this movie.
The humor lacked the tired sexual jokes that seem to be obligatory in today's comedies, or idiotic humor of children-safe movies making it almost impossible to actually enjoy a laugh together as a family. . Also, I'm curious to know what fans of Lucha Libre will think of this movie. There is nothing sexual, andthere are good morals to be found, but the movie does have a strongline of toilet humor and Punch and Judy level slapstick throughout. The dialog is crude, humor slapstick, and storyline so, so. And that's the joy of sharing a movie like this. Jack Black even gets to sing, a few times! Jack Black seems to be really enjoying himself in this film, and his portrayal of Nacho is just as fun to watch.
Every now and then you either see, or read something about him. We're living in an era where Dane Cookis our top comedian. If you like Jack Black, Dynamite, Wrestling, or your kids have alreadyseen Cars and you want to take them to something else, this movie isabout as good as you could hope for. It's a little overlong and some of thejokes fall flat on their face. With his skin so white, he sticks out like asore thumb amongst the rest of the cast. Ican't wait to see Jared Hess's next project. Themovie is clever and artistically shot, adding even more depth to thehumour.
It rarely throws a joke or a circumstance at you when you are not expecting it. It is a uniquely original and zany vision that no one could possibly confuse with reality. Now just the way Jack Black tries to be a Mexican is great. The movie will probably do okay at the box office, just due to Black's appeal and the cult status of Napoleon Dynamite and Mike White. Itseems that even as the tools to unlock our imaginations get flashierand flashier, and special effect budgets grow and grown, American filmgrow static and stale. Also, it is nice to see a movieabout Latin culture starringgaspLatinos! The audiencewas laughing so much at times, it was hard to hear the film.
